Hi my name is Emma, and I am a registered hypnotherapist practicing from Tenby in Pembrokeshire South West Wales.

I qualified as a hypnotherapist in July 2009 after 2 years studying a diploma in Clinical Hypnosis with Clinical Hypnotherapy Wales' BST Foundation. Before that, I completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology at the University of the West of Engalnd Bristol.
My interest in hypnotherapy stems from my working as a dental nurse at my parents' dental practice in Pembroke. Seeing the patients coming in to the practice in various states of anxiety, made me think about non- invasive ways of helping them get over this state and become able to receive the treatment they needed, feeling secure and confident in themselves. I also became intereseted in dental treatment under hypnosis where no anaesthetic is needed because no pain is felt.
I started my hypnotherapy training a bit of a sceptic as to the nature and the effectiveness of hypnosis in a clinical setting, beacuse my knowledge of hypnosis before my training stemed from the likes of stage hypnotists. I felt this way until I watched footage on the course of implant surgery being performed under hypnosis on a patient without any pain relief. The pain level of this patient only reached a maximum of 3 out of 10, which i thought was extremely impressive! So a couple of sessions into my course I saw these sorts of 'miracles' happen for myself and became a total convert.

I am currently working towards my Advanced Certificate in Clinical Hypnotherapy and am also training as a counsellor at the University of Wales Newport. I hope to train as a hypnobirthing practitioner in the future (possibly Nov 2010) to increase my clinical hypnosis with childbirth skills and because I now have a particular interest in how much hypnosis can help throughout pregnancy and during labour itself.
